How To Help

For years Amy lived in a truck, drifting from place to place, struggling with the weight of alcohol addiction and the trauma of her past.

Amy felt trapped in a cycle that seemed impossible to escape, with each day blending into the next. For a long time, she did not see a way out. But everything changed when she reached out for help at the Siena Francis House. Amy's journey from homelessness to hope is a testament to her resilience.

Although it was not easy, Amy decided that she was helpless to the power of her addiction and enrolled in the Miracles program. After going through detox, she dove into both her addiction recovery and working through the deep-rooted trauma she had experienced throughout her life. With the support of the staff, peers, and counselors at Siena Francis House, Amy became more comfortable talking about her past, confronting her demons, and rebuilding her sense of self-worth.

During her time in the program, Amy was able to rediscover her strength. She participated in group therapy, one-on-one counseling, and took part in employment training, all of which helped her process past pain while gaining the tools she needed to navigate life in sobriety. She learned how to cope with her emotions in healthier ways and developed a sense of accountability in her recovery.

Amy's hard work paid off when she graduated from the Miracles program in April 2024 with over, marking a major milestone in her journey. The graduation was a proud moment for Amy, who felt overwhelmed by the support and love she received from both the staff and her fellow participants. It was not just the completion of a program—it was the beginning of a new chapter in her life.

Since graduating, Amy has become a source of inspiration for others who are walking similar paths. She actively engages in her recovery community, attending Twelve Step meetings regularly and staying connected with those who are also in recovery. She is passionate about supporting others through their struggles, knowing firsthand the importance of having a strong network. She regularly shares her story with newcomers, reminding them that it is possible to turn your life around, no matter how dark things may seem.

Today, Amy is not only maintaining housing but also thriving in her work and personal life. She manages a local thrift shop, where she brings a positive, can-do attitude to her job every day. Her role at the thrift store has given her a sense of purpose, and she is able to interact with the public and contribute to the community in meaningful ways.

Amy’s transformation is a true example of what can happen when individuals are given the opportunity for addiction treatment to heal, grow, and believe in themselves. Her journey reflects not just overcoming addiction, but also overcoming the barriers that homelessness and trauma create. Through resilience, support, and determination, Amy has found a renewed sense of hope and empowerment. Her story continues to inspire those around her, proving that recovery is possible and that anyone, no matter their past, can build a better future.
