Volunteer

Volunteers make a tremendous difference at our organization on a daily basis. If you are wondering how to help the people we serve, Siena Francis House offers a variety of volunteer options:

 • Meal Service Volunteer (for Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner) • Kitchen Volunteer • Dock & Pantry Volunteer • Laundry Service Volunteer • Volunteer Driver • Maintenance Volunteer • Daily Campus Clean-Up Volunteer. We are always looking for volunteers who may possess – and be able to share their – expertise, skills and talents in a variety of areas.

While the COVD-19 pandemic limited some of our on-site volunteer opportunities, we have fully opened the following volunteer positions on our campus. However, we ask potential volunteers to be at a low risk for COVID-19, determined by using CHI Health's online, COVID-19 self-screening questionnaire, found HERE.

No application is necessary to volunteer, but advanced, online sign up IS required. By signing up online, you are agreeing to the terms and conditions of Siena Francis House's Volunteer Expectations, Waiver of Liability, and Code of Conduct Agreement. Please read it before signing up.

IMPORTANT: Siena Francis House will soon be transitioning to a new and easy-to-use online volunteer scheduling software platform. This new software is designed to help make scheduling a volunteer activity with Siena Francis House quick and simple. In anticipation of this transition, we will be sending out information to past volunteers, as well as updating this site regarding this new software platform.

HERE'S HOW YOU CAN GET INVOLVED!
Meal Service

What does sharing your time or talent look like?  How about serving our breakfast, lunch or dinner meal to those experiencing homelessness? The Siena Francis House provides nearly 400,000 meals each year – and, we need volunteers to serve all of these meals to the homeless. Meals include serving breakfast from 7:15 until 9:15 am, lunch from 10:45 until 12:45 pm and the evening dinner from 4:15 until 6:15 p.m.

Volunteering to serve a meal is a great activity for groups or individuals who are trying to become better acquainted with our shelter and organization and to learn how to help homeless people; it is also a great way to provide a real and meaningful service to our homeless guests.

For safety's sake, please know that ALL Meal Service volunteers MUST wear closed-toed shoes which have rubber/non-slick soles. While performing the duties of this job, the volunteer is regularly required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, lift and/or move up to 20 pounds, and talk and hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit, and reach with hands and arms.

This volunteer opportunity occurs in the dining room of our shelter. Responsibilities include preparing the food service area with drinks, utensils, napkins, “plating” meals onto trays and distributing trays to guests and maintaining dining room cleanliness. Between meal servings, volunteers sanitize tables and chairs. After lunch is completed, volunteers fold up the tables and move them and the chairs to the perimeter of the dining room, 2 volunteers per table.

Also, remember that by signing up, you are agreeing to the terms and conditions of Siena Francis House's Volunteer Expectations, Waiver of Liability, and Code of Conduct Agreement. Please read and agree to this, while you sign up to volunteer.
